‘Tis the Season to Give!

It’s that time of year… and no, we’re not talking about all the treats momma stashed in her hiding places that my sniffer has sniffed out.

We’re talking about the paw-some organization momma and I selected for this year’s donation. When she asked for my help, I at first thought she was giving away all my stuffies. She has done that before… but I pulled them out of the donate pile before she shipped them off. Phew, that was a close call for my moose with no stuffing, my duck with no quack and my frayed frisbee that lost its flying capabilities.

So when I realized she didn’t mean to donate my toys, and instead meant to donate a percentage of her earnings from all our customer + pup-stomer purchases, I dove into the investigation, claiming a front row seat in momma’s lap.

Ladybug received aid from GCCR for symptoms akin to syringomyelia by performing a foramen magnum magnum decompression.

Now, I may have dozed off a few times when the screen was filled with more words than photos, but I perked up when I saw sweet pups that look a lot like me, and some even that didn’t. (I had to cover momma’s eyes and kiss her to death when she saw tri-color cavies because I think she’s thinking of replacing me and we’re not letting that happen on my watch.)

When I saw an organization I thought was perfect, I rose my paw and wagged my wagger real hard. I may have even vocalized that the search had ended because the findings on the computer screen checked all our boxes. Momma agreed and we stopped our annual search for a cavalier rescue to support.

Ollie had a surgery to prevent her hip from popping out -- a result of being run over by a car. Ollie also sustained nerve damage that left her incontinent and a broken tail that was amputated. GCCR was able to fund these surgeries and his care because of donations.

The Greater Chicago Cavalier Rescue has been chosen by myself (and maybe momma helped) to receive a percentage of our yearly earnings. Since it's inception in 2005, this small, entirely volunteer-based rescue, has been devoted to taking in as many needy Cavaliers as possible, providing any medical care and/or behavioral rehabilitation needed, before matching each one with their perfect fur-ever families.

Due to multiple factors, GCCR has seen a substantial increase in the number of dogs relinquished into their care. From 2022 to 2023 alone, their rescue has experienced an over 400% increase in the number of dogs being surrendered. With these intakes comes substantial veterinary bills, greater need for volunteers, foster homes, transportation, and supplies.

We encourage our readers to think about donating to their rescue mission. Every cent is used toward bettering the lives of pups just like me. And though I like being the only Cavie in the house, I wish for all these special fluffers to find their furever family. (Maybe I’ll consider letting momma bring home another Cavie, but I call first dibs on the lap!)

Katie spent her life in a commercial kennel producing puppies. A CT scan determined her hearing loss was partially due to PSOM (primary secretory otitis media), also known as glue ear. Additional tests revealed blindness due to retinal atrophy and an echo showed Mitral Valve Disease which is being treated with medications.

We couldn’t donate without our customers, so we thank you with a million puppy-licks and tail wags for your purchases from Woof Wags + Co.
